IF you haven't heard of Die Antwoord yet...shame is all I can say.

The Zef-Rap group from the Cape Town area in South Africa has recently become a phenomena, owing to their distinct style which blends rap, rave and hip-hop, blending Afrikaans and English to form a sound praised by the South African youth.

Comprising of Ninja (Watkin Tudor Jones), Yo-Landi Vi$$er and DJ Hi-Tek, Die Antwoord (translated to mean 'The Answer' has taken the world by storm, when they released their first album $O$ for free on their official website in 2009. The release of their first single, 'Enter the Ninja' in 2009 was the recipient of millions of online hits, forcing them to move their hoting to a US-based hosting provider to handle the endless stream of traffic they were attracting.

I was lucky enought to experience Die Antwoord recently in Stellenbosch, and to say that their stage presence is unbelievable is an understatement. The sheer volume of the expletives that emerge from their mouths draws the support of the crowds, and their undescribable way of dancing fixes all eyes on them.

Oh Mr. Moody...

Although the show has been around for quite some time, I think the alluring David Duchovny of Califonication, deserves even more praise than he gets from the women who struggle to take their eyes off the screen when he appears...

A troubled writer with an addiction to beautiful women, alcohol and drugs (of any type), Hank blames his writer's block on a number of reasons, one of them being his ability or lack of it to say no to women who throw themselves at him...

It has to be his fuck-you attitude paired with his deep love for his yound daughter Becca and his struggle to get back together with his wife Karen which draws me to him, or his cocky, binge-drinking ways which place him in an even more favourable position...

Never a dull episode, Hank charms his way into our imaginations with his tight black jocks and lower-back dimples...;)

Bon Iver - inspiration

For a while now, my playlist has been limited to one band, namely Bon Iver. You may think that this bit of information is wrong, but Justin Vernon is in fact the lead singer of the indie folk band created in 2007.

Other band members include Sean Carey (drums, vocals, piano),Michael Noyce (vocals, baritone, guitar) and Matthew McCaughan (bass, drums, vocals).
The man needs no introduction, landing a spot on NPR's Most Important Recordings of the Decade list, for his debut album, For Emma, For Ever Ago.
This is a major accomplishment, considering the majority of the album was recorded in Vernon's winter log cabin in the woods in Northwestern Wisconsin. Vernon used minimal equipment, a small recording set-up: a Shure SM57 and an old Silvertone guitar, his brother's old drums and other small things, things that he would make or find lying around.

My year-long obsession with Bon Iver's music is due to the haunting yet gentle tone of Vernon's voice, which speaks of heartache and loss yet doesn't come across as commercial or something one has heard before. It is characterised by an introspective tone, with the embellishments coming from the orchestral tones produced by Vernon and the natural sounds of the creaking woods around him.

Dark was the Night, For Emma, For Ever Ago and Blood Bank are Bon Iver's currently released albums, and highly recommended for anyone looking for reflective, almost spiritual sounds to inspire.
